From time to time we like to spotlight an employee who is really doing something cool or a staff event that gives our customers a peek inside of our world here at ServerBeach. Today’s post highlights one of our ServerBeach Developers, Travis Thomsen founder of Dark Design Pictures a film making company in San Antonio, Texas.
Travis, from San Carlos, California now residing in San Antonio, Texas started toying with independent films in 2002. When asked about his films, he was a little hesitant to discuss his first, as it’s a film he embraces. In his career thus far he has won two awards – his second film, “Joined” won best picture for the 2006 Short Ends Winter Film Festival in San Antonio and his third film, “Don’t Go back to Rays” won 2nd place in the local SA48Hr Film Experience. Travis has also worked on 2 independent feature films as a both director of photography. He’ll be directing his first feature film in January 2009.
Working at ServerBeach since August 2005 as a developer he states, “It’s the only place I’ve worked where I can bribe my boss with beer and cigarettes. How cool is that!?” and he incorporates his work into his films from time to time, making light comedies about the IT Industry which is shown in his most recent project “1-800-Tech-Support.” (Okay, the beer and cigarettes – not really but you get the point).
1-800-Tech-Support is a web series about tech support workers in the web hosting industry. The series is based on a short film called “The Night Shift” that was created for the National 48 Hour Film Challenge.
Teasers can be viewed on the 1-800-Tech-Support Web Site here: http://www.1800techsupport.net/
The series is targeted to be released January 6, 2009.
We are very happy to have Travis at The Beach and wish him sheer success in his future of filmmaking!
